Alstom is a global leader in green mobility, providing state-of-the-art rolling stock, signaling and operations and maintenance services for transit and rail agencies around the world. We are the largest private operator in the U.S., moving millions of passengers daily. We operate and maintain SunRail in Florida, two Baltimore-area commuter lines, Metrolink in Southern California, and six automated people mover systems at major U.S. airports. We also operate the Toronto-area commuter rail system and the light-rail system in greater Montreal.
Alstom produced the NextGen Acela high-speed trains for Amtrak, which debuted in August along the Northeast Corridor between Boston and Washington, D.C., to great public acclaim. We drew on nearly 50 years of experience building high-speed trains across the globe for the design, but manufactured them in the U.S., with union labor, at our plant in Hornell, NY. They have received rave reviews for their smooth ride, latest amenities and sleek design. In addition, Alstom recently won a $2.3 billion contract for new commuter rail cars for the New York MTA and a $1.1 billion deal for passenger cars and locomotives for NJ TRANSIT.
Alstom has helped keep Boston moving ever since we produced the first cars for the re-organized MBTA Red Line in 1969. Over the years, we have supplied or overhauled rolling stock for the Red, Orange, and Green lines, and for MBTA Commuter Rail. In fact, 32% of the trains operating in Boston are manufactured by Alstom. We also helped upgrade the signaling systems for the Red and Orange lines to improve performance and efficiency. Along the way, Alstom has partnered with local organizations such as A Better City and TransitMatters to exchange ideas and collaborate on transportation initiatives.
Alstom has unparalleled expertise in the rail industry drawn from its nearly 100 years of experience (founded in 1928) and across 63 countries. Our unique experience as both a manufacturer and operator allows us to deliver environmentally sustainable solutions that optimize the entire lifecycle of rail operations – from design and build to operations, modernization and end of life. We work with our customers to arrive at tailor-made, dependable solutions to their transportation needs that will be economic to operate and maintain over the long-term.
