Explore the Evolution of the Culture and Art Sector in Greater Boston

Art raises awareness to social movements, records political revolutions, amplifies climate resiliency, and enhances the exploration of culture and identity. Due to COVID-19’s virtual influence, how people engage with and access art has drastically changed, whether it be street or digital art. Emerging art, like The Embrace, creates immersive experiences, allowing for individuals to fully digest the art’s meaning and how it reflects our culture and society.

Join us to learn more about Boston’s culture and art landscape, how it is fueling the creative economy, and what institutions are doing to attract more young professionals to the arts sector.

About F.U.N. Lives On

Extended from our Fierce Urgency of Now Festival, F.U.N. Lives On highlights key elements from the festival. Event formats vary, but the events themselves focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion as they celebrate Boston’s diverse cultures, neighborhoods, and leaders.

Jean Dolin is the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Boston LGBTQ+ Museum of Art, History & Culture.

Dolin is a dynamic Social Impact entrepreneur and community leader dedicated to championing equal and equitable rights for immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community across Massachusetts. With a versatile career spanning over a decade, he has navigated diverse sectors, including politics, nonprofit organizations, advocacy, community engagement, arts, and entrepreneurship. Dolin has been featured on Forbes Magazine 30 UNDER 30 List and was recently named “Most Influential Bostonian” by Boston Magazine.

His journey commenced with crucial roles, such as working with the American Red Cross in 2015 and interning for US Senator Elizabeth Warren during his college years. Jean further contributed as a Campaign Fellow on the Clinton-Kaine presidential campaign in 2016, laying the foundation for his commitment to public service.

In 2017, Jean’s dedication to community health led him to serve as a Public Health Ambassador for the Boston Alliance for Community Health. Concurrently, he completed a year of AmeriCorps service at Social Capital Inc. and took on the role of Campaign Manager for Councilor Clerger in Randolph, Massachusetts. His efforts played a pivotal role in electing the first woman of color as an at-large councilor in the town’s 200-plus years of history.

In 2021, Jean founded the Dolin Impact Group, an impact-focused consulting practice. And has since then, collaborated with nonprofit organizations and institutions aligned with his mission to deepen relationships with communities, providing access for historically excluded and marginalized groups, and enhancing institutional policies for community building. With an already astounding career, the multi-hyphenate is still adding more to his burgeoned resume- working as a Multidisciplinary Creative Director, Arts Curator, Executive Cultural Producer, Exhibition Designer, and astute serial Social Impact Entrepreneur. Notable among his recent ventures is the founding of Portraits of Pride, 2021 a significant LGBTQ-centered public art exhibit featuring influential LGBTQ leaders. In 2023, Jean founded the Boston LGBTQ+ Museum of Art, History, & Culture, marking yet another milestone in his impactful journey. Despite his distinguished achievements, Jean sees this as just the beginning, with a commitment to continue making a lasting impact in the realms of social entrepreneurship and community leadership.

Jean’s dedication to the arts and entrepreneurship is further evident when he served as the Chief Curator for the Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce. In this capacity, he spearheaded art initiatives that bridge the worlds of entrepreneurship and the arts, fostering growth opportunities for local Massachusetts artists. His commitment to equity and inclusion is at the forefront of his work, ensuring that underrepresented voices are elevated and heard.

Jean Dolin currently serves a Board of Directors of the LGBTQ Hosuing Inc, and previously served on the Harvard University Institutional Review Board (2022-2024) and on Harvard School of Public Health Community Coalition for Equity in Research (2021-2024).

theo tyson is an intuitive and inclusive curator who invites conversations about the sociocultural implications of race, class, gender, identity, and sexuality through a lens of fashion, art, and culture. Her practice focuses on creating sartorial spaces of reclamation and authority to share the powerful stories of non-white, Black women and those on the LGBTQI+ spectrum, investigating power dynamics that touch on constructs from colorism to misogyny; then taking it a step further to misogynoir. theo privileges noncanonical and communal ways of seeing, offering audiences poignant new perspectives from which to view the rich diversity of our humanity. Looking beyond systems of white heteronormative patriarchy and supremacy, tyson’s curatorial practice is centered on historiography that privileges and provides authority to the global majority – those previously labeled as underrepresented or marginalized. Using the ‘universal’ language and power of fashion, she unravels threads that put forward opportunities for deeper connections to the intent, import, and impact of clothing and dress as a means of empathy and empowerment.

Their previous posts include roles at Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film, and the Boston Athenæum where they worked on historical and contemporary projects across genres including fashion, sculpture, and photography. She went on to co-curate an original exhibition Being Muholi: Portraits as Resistance at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and served as advising scholar for Patrick Kelly: Runway of Love at the Peabody Essex Museum before being appointed the Penny Vinik Curator of Fashion Arts at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston in 2021. In addition to various installations and interventions including celebrating the 50th anniversary of Versailles ‘73 and the Black experience of jazz, art, and modernity, she’s since curated two original exhibitions, Four Womxn: New Musings on Blackness and Something Old, Something New: Wedding Fashions and Traditions, co-curated collaborative and interdisciplinary presentations through Dress Up and Deep Waters: Four Artists and the Sea and directed an annual commission, The Banner Project: Troy Montes Michie.

Beyond curation, tyson invests her time engaging with the community; from local schools and programs like Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Big Sisters, The Boston Foundation’s Equality Fund, to various other cultural, social, and civic organizations, circling back to the MFA Teen, HomeSchool, Accessibility, and Pathways Internship Programs at the MFA Boston, and much more.
